20% of all MPs supported Probation Service...

It wasn't very long ago that an Early Day Motion 622 in support of the Probation Service
was voted in favour by 20% of MP's.

Regrettably the Justice Secretary 0.15% disagrees.

PROBATION SERVICES IN ENGLAND AND WALES

That this House welcomes the news that the Probation Service in England and Wales won the British Quality Foundation Gold Medal for Excellence in 2011; notes that no Probation Trust is deemed to be failing or in need of improvement; further notes that each Probation Trust in England and Wales is meeting its target on the production of court reports, victim satisfaction and the successful completion of orders or licences; and acknowledges the achievements of the Probation Service in England and Wales for carrying out its work efficiently and effectively.

Even so, Justice Secretary Chris Grayling's judgement is that the  Excellent Gold Medal Winning Probation Service is to be dismantled and privatised.

While in The Guardian today Shadow Secretary MP Sadiq Khan says that failing private prisons should be renationalised and accused  the Justice Secretary, of having made a "catastrophic misjudgment" after he praised the "supersized" 1,605-place Oakwood in Staffordshire as his favourite prison.

Let's hope that Probation doesn't have to fail before it is renationalised!!!! Surely Minister Grayling has got better things to do than messing about with things that are working!!!!
